Madera Ediciones was born from a desire to preserve the stories that are often left out of the written record: family memories, Afro-Boricua voices, community traditions, and experiences of faith, migration, and belonging.
Founded by writer and educator Luis M. Madera Suárez, the publishing house transforms memories, documents, conversations, and lived experiences into books that can be shared from generation to generation.
Luis M. Madera Suárez is a writer, educator, and founder of Madera Ediciones. Born in Guayama, Puerto Rico, and currently residing in the Bronx, New York, his work is rooted in family memory, Afro-Boricua history, spirituality, and the voices too often left outside the written record.
Through fiction, theater, and essays, he transforms memories, documents, and conversations into stories that preserve the identity, dignity, and lived experience of entire communities. His work seeks to ensure that these memories can be read, shared, and passed down from generation to generation.
His experience in education, curriculum design, and adult learning also shapes the way he tells stories—with sensitivity, clarity, and deep attention to each person’s voice. For Luis, writing is a way of listening, preserving, and returning to communities what history has not always known how to name.
